RECONCILING THE STATEMENT THAT THE NOCTURNAL JOURNEY BEGAN IN THE HOUSE OF UMM HANI, WITH THE STATEMENT THAT IT BEGAN WITH THE HATIM
According to one traditional report, the Nocturnal Journey began from the house of Umm Hâni, and it has also been reported that it began from the hatim, so how can the two reports be reconciled?
The author of Rûh al-Bayân [Spirit of Clarification] has said: “According to the most authentic of the traditional reports, the Nocturnal Journey arose from the house of Umm Hâni, the daughter of AbÛ Tâlib and her house was part of al-Haram [the sanctuary]. The whole of the Sancturary is a place of worship. The boundaries of the Sanctuary are three miles from the direction of Madîna, nine miles from the road of at-Tâ’if, and ten miles from the road of Jidda.”
